Matthew 15:18

18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

Luke 6:45

45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Jesus spoke quite clearly about the relationship between what’s deep inside us and how we speak. Most of us can recall a time or, more likely, times when we have spoken and dearly wish we could take back the words we used. It’s humbling for all of us. But take heart. While we all work at that remember that “we are saved by grace through faith and this is not of ourselves, it is a gift of God.” (Ephesians 2)
